Peter Gregory, Lund Humphries and the Modern British art book

I recently bought myself a copy of Valerie Holman's excellent biography of Eric 'Peter' Gregory, the driving force behind the publishers Lund Humphries in the middle years of the c20th. As well as publishing important volumes on Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and others, Lund Humphries set the benchmark for what an art book really needs to be.

Gregory himself was also an interesting character - as well as being a collector and friend to artists, he was also a benefactor, and his enlightened sponsorship of the Gregory Fellowships at Leeds University in the 1950s and 1960s was something which still echoes right down to the present day.

Thus we thought it might be interesting to look at some of the literature which Lund Humphries have produced, both in their original form and in the current manifestation that continues to produce excellent books on the arts. Happy browsing!
