Following the Lewis exhibition d'Offay had held in 1983, this next show focussed on the twenties, a decade in which Lewis, like most of his peers, had to recalibrate his art and himself after WWI. There are large number of portraits, striking images of people of the time like James Joyce, Edith Sitwell and Iris Tree, but also works which show the development of Lewis' new style, an adaptation of his earlier vorticist manner to something considerably more organic. A good essay by Richard Cork adds an extra element to the publication, which is definitely a useful and interesting addition to the shelf.
