Artist: Winifred Nicholson
Author: Judith Collins
Publisher: Tate Gallery
Date: 1987
Condition: A very tidy and clean copy of this catalogue, some very minor handling marks to cover, but otherwise very good and appears hardly read.

Winifred Nicholson was a pioneer painter amongst the modernists of the 1920s and 1930s but over time her reputation has tended to be overshadowed by that of her husband, Ben Nicholson. However, recent scholarship has brought to light her unique contribution to British art between the wars when she not only explored how light and colour can work in a painting, but also as a champion of the work of her close friend Christopher Wood who had died in 1930.

This exhibition, at the Tate Gallery in 1987, was one of the first to survey her whole long painting career and includes a biographical essay, a very useful bibliography and exhibition list and a chronology of Winifred's life.
