Marlborough's 1999 memorial retrospective exhibition was a fitting tribute to an artist who not only had a very long career but who was, for many of his contemporaries, an exemplar of dedication.
When Pasmore moved from a realist to abstract manner in the late 1940s, he was abandoned by several patrons and collectors, and indeed his 'going abstract' set a standard for other younger artists who were thinking along similar lines, such as Terry Frost
