Condition: A little faded and with some wear to the front cover, this is generally a clean and unmarked copy of this catalogue. Also includes a loose folded Addenda sheet with four additional lots for the auction.
A rather starry event here, an auction of works presented to the ICA for sale on behalf of the Carlton House project, making a new HQ for the Institute and where it still remains almost six decades later.
The donations were very wide-ranging but included works from artists, galleries, collectors, critics and others, British and international. By the standards of the time, the catalogue is quite lavish, with most works getting a page to themselves and a photo, some even in colour!
Taking place just a few weeks after the publication of the famous issue of Time magazine which enshrined the 'Swinging London' idea, this catalogue is quite a snapshot of its time in the London art world.
