A superb example of the art of the book printer and designer, this large format volume is pretty much the last word on the wood-engravings of Ravilious. Divided into chronological sections, the images are reproduced actual size and cover an amazing range of subjects and formats, from designs for commercial publications, illustrated books, bookplates, typography and advertising. A further indication, if it were needed, of the loss to British art by his death in 1942, aged just 39.
Designed by John Carrod at the Royal College of Art and printed at The Curwen Press Ltd., this volume is numbered II 49 (apparently this numbering relates to a run of 380 copies from a total run of 500).
