Ruth and Joseph Bromberg were collectors who everyone in the London art world recognised, particularly in the winter when they would come to view the sales and exhibitions in virtually matching Loden overcoats.
Their taste was very wide-ranging and knowledge formidable; Ruth was the author of catalogue raisonne of both Canaletto's and Sickert's prints, and she was a friend and regular sitter to Frank Auerbach.
This selling exhibition at the FAS in 2004 offered an amazing array of Sickert's printed works, a little-known but important aspect of his output, and the quality of the collection formed by the Brombergs was extremely high, as well as including some very scarce prints.
