A virtually as new copy of the first edition of Edmund de Waal's rather wonderfully encyclopaedic book on ceramics.
de Waal is well known as an international ceramic artist, as well as the author of several books, and this fascinating and informative book looks at the history of ceramic art from ancient China, the classical world, the renaissance and onwards to contemporary practice.
However, running this in an A-Z sequence rather than the expected chronological order makes for some delightful and unexpected juxtapositions which prompt questions about how we use this most adaptable medium.
If you know someone who loves ceramics, then this might just be that present you need to buy them!
