Artists: Just too many to list!
Author: Peggy Guggenheim (intro.)
Publisher: Arts Council
Date: 1964-5
Condition: A little shelf-marking to the bottom edge and some light handling marks to the back cover, but otherwise a very clean and tidy copy of this catalogue; from the second edition, design by Gordon House
As you might expect, this catalogue is filled with marvellous things. Works by Picasso, Bacon, Giacometti, Mondrian, Moore and Pollock plus many others leap out at us, and even though the vast majority are illustrated in black and white, it really does impress.
At the time of this show, there was apparently a quiet charm offensive underway to try and secure the collection permanently for London; we know that of course this did not happen but it certainly was a mouth-watering prospect! Peggy did have connections here though, having had a commercial gallery in the 1930s, something that is to be celebrated in an upcoming Royal Academy show in 2027
