Condition: A first edition hardback with the original unclipped dust wrapper over green boards; the wrapper a little faded to the spine and with some minor handling marks and one or two chips or nicks to the edges. Internally a very clean copy, the owner's initials and date in ink to first flyleaf, otherwise really good. Loosely inserted is a newspaper review of the book from the TLS 31/10/1980
The late 1970s and early 1980s saw a huge swell of rediscovery for Lewis as a central figure in the modernist world in British art prior to WWI and this biography fits well into that period. The range of Lewis' work and connections as well as his famously combative character make for good reading.
