Although only 35 when he died in 1920, several publications on his work had already appeared by the beginning of WWII. This book, which was amazingly first published in 1944 while the war was still going on, went through at least four editions and is one of the major early accounts of the artist and his life and offers valuable information, especially considering the arguments over authenticity of some of Modigliani's oeuvre. There is an extensive and useful bibliography of early literature on the artist.
