Max Bill is not as well-known in Britain as many of his contemporaries, but his career is no less exciting and covers several fields. Painter, sculptor, architect, designer, typographer and on, he was a Bauhaus student in the late 20s and has excelled in many areas since. His rigorous abstraction is outstanding and exciting and this small volume, part of the Methuen Art in Progress series on contemporary, mostly British, artists of the late 50s and early 60s, offers a very accessible introduction to his work. Well-illustrated, it also includes a double-page fold out colour installation image, quite an adventurous thing for 1964!
