Black linen-covered boards with an embossed design, printed on Palado paper by the artist at the Druckwerkstatt, Berlin-Kreuzberg, under the direction of Michael Schonke. The whole copy is very fine, the book includes twelve screenprinted images by McLean and text by Gooding. From an edition of 250, this is copy 13/250 and is signed on the rear endpaper by both McLean and Gooding and dated 1987. Loosely inserted is a copy of the original folded sale prospectus, bearing a screenprinted image by McLean and information about the publication
A rather wonderful project combining text and image and dedicated by the authors in memory of Joseph Beuys, it takes a playful approach to the meaning, form and use of the ladder, accompanied by McLean's striking graphic work.
