Robertson's work is probably more familiar to most readers than they think - if you have ever seen the well-known images of a pub regulars' outing to Margate with a group of ladies on a big dipper laughing uproariously when the wind blows their skirts up, then that is a photo by Robertson. Her early photojournalism in the 1950s was largely urban, often for Picture Post and Life and other publications, but her body of work was actually much larger.
This useful and interesting publication, with commentary by the artist, adds a significant slice of knowledge to our understanding of British photojournalism in a period often seemingly dominated by the male photographers.
