An important exhibition, this was Bacon's first Tate retrospective and included a very significant body of major works, including some which received their first showing here, such as the Three Studies for a Crucifixion, 1962, painted just weeks before the opening. The exhibition cemented Bacon's standing not just at home but internationally, with the show subsequently touring to Germany, Italy, Austria and Holland.
