Lillian Browse was one of the legendary figures of the post-war art world in London and her biography, published at the end of a long life filled with achievements, makes a great read for anyone interested in that fascinating period.
Part of the Roland, Browse & Delbanco dealership, her championing of major European artists such as Rodin and Degas alongside some of the most important early c20th British figures like William Nicholson, Augustus John and Walter Sickert helped to create a very particular taste amongst collectors.
A very readable biography, she tells a great tale, from a childhood in South Africa to becoming a major player in the picture dealing world.
