Although it is now thirty years old, Ingleby's biography of Christopher Wood's short but fascinating life is still a very authoritative look at an important British painter. The crucial period for Wood, from around 1926-7 until his death in 1930, is covered in depth and with a great deal of reference to the available source materials. Wood's connections to the art worlds of Paris and London, his interests in ballet design and friendships with Ben and Winifred Nicholson are each of significance to the pattern of British art in the 1920s, as well as his connection, alongside Ben, to Alfred Wallis.
