Condition: Apart from a little fading to the spine and a soft vertical crease to the centre of the cover, this is a generally clean and unmarked copy of this catalogue, consistent with its age.

This auction was a precursor of the large 'British Art' sales which both Sotheby's and Christie's would hold in the early 2010s, but at the time, held in New York in 1968, it was quite an unusual spectacle. Covering the full gamut of British art as collected then, it runs through the C18th and C19th up to what was then the big guns of contemporary British painting. Interestingly, in what we would now decree the Modern British section of the auction, William Scott, John Piper and Francis Bacon get a full page colour image, Lynn Chadwick and Henry Moore just a black and white!
