Printed as part of the King Penguin series (K43), the aim was to produce small, affordable artist-led volumes on often quite arcane subjects. This example, first published in September 1948, included an interesting essay by Gwyn Jones which covers many aspects of Wales and the Welsh landscapes and is complemented by Rowntree's illustrations. The original price was 2 shillings and sixpence, a very reasonable sum for such a decorative book!
