Published to accompany the 1992 Imperial War Museum exhibition of the same name, this is a very useful and approachable volume on Lewis. I remember the exhibition well, and was quite taken aback by what was then my first exposure to these powerful paintings en masse.
Lewis is, and was, a divisive figure in British art in the early decades of the c20th; he was a major player in Vorticism, then produced some very powerful wartime images, and on his return proceeded to fall out with almost all of his former allies. The later work is often extremely strong but the loss of virtually all his major pre-1914 oils makes understanding his contribution to an important but short-lived movement very hard.
A strong catalogue for anyone interested in Lewis and the art of WWI
