Nash and the playwright Gordon Bottomley became friends around 1910 and they corresponded right through until Nash's death in 1946. The extensive collection of letters in both directions which are reproduced here suggest a very interesting friendship with both men having wide spheres of knowledge. Both valued the other's opinion and the letters cover a range of topics, notably English Literature and Theatre. They are also quite funny sometimes, in the way that people who know each other well can mock and tease and Nash often included cartoons and drawings to emphasise his descriptions.

A fascinating insight into a painter whose work can often obscure the man.
