Artists: Fernand Leger, Juan Gris, Georges Braque, Robert Delaunay, Auguste Herbin et al.
Authors: John Golding and Christopher Green
Publisher: Tate Gallery
Date: 1970
Condition: The hardback version of this interesting catalogue, complete with the original and unclipped dust wrapper over the ochre linen boards with purple (yes!) foil embossing. The wrapper a little shelf-marked at the edges and with one small tear to the bottom edge verso. The catalogue itself is clean, tidy and apparently little-used.
Although the title suggests a wider scope and there are several artists included in the exhibit listing, this is primarily an exhibition about Leger. However, that is no bad thing as it gives a very wide-ranging view on his work in relation to the styles and aesthetics of Paris in the 20s and 30s. The essays are informative and the illustrations copious, although sadly most are in black and white - one can only imagine what a riot of colour this exhibition must have been!
