Imagined Realities: Edward Bawden, Paul Nash, John Piper, Eric Ravilious and Keith Vaughan

We are delighted to be able to offer through monograph the first selection of volumes from a private library.

Gordon and Ursula Bowyer were both architects, and in addition to their working interests, had a huge range of knowledge and understanding of an amazing range of topics, from Modern British art through to Renaissance sculpture and eighteenth century furniture.

They worked on the Sports Pavilion for the 1951 Festival of Britain and later established an architectural practice designing modern houses, including for Jim Callaghan and his wife, as well as salons for Vidal Sassoon!

Browse through the initial release which focuses on five British artists whose work Gordon & Ursula loved.

The selection of books and catalogues that we will be offering from their library will be released in three parts:

Part 1:
Imagined Realities: Edward Bawden, Paul Nash, John Piper, Eric Ravilious and Keith Vaughan

Part 2:
Modernism in Britain between the Wars: Volumes from the library of Gordon & Ursula Bowyer

Part 3:
Modern British and Twentieth Century Art, Design, Architecture and Printmaking

_______

Paintings and Works on Paper, Prints and Design from the Gordon & Ursula Bowyer Collection will be offered at auction by Lyon & Turnbull during the Autumn 2025 season.
